This photo was taken from the 16th street viaduct looking south east, at the intersection of 16th Street and Wynkoop (Union Station is to the photographers left). The building directly behind the Santa Fe box car still stands today while the viaduct was removed some years ago. Great photo, I had fun tracking down where it was taken from.

I did a bit more research, the street car worked for the DTC (Denver Tramway Company). The Rio Grande unit is an EMD NW2 ,#100, the only one that the Rio Grande operated. It was purchase in 1941 and the street cars quit running in mid 1950, so that can narrow down the time range the photo would have been taken. The Denver Public Library has a multitude of photos of the cities street cars and also a route map of the system. I also referenced from DRGW.net and the CRM’s Colorado Rail Annual #19.
