Looks like a Hammerhead Shark! I'm loving these 'different' EMDs you're posting. Brian!

This is what you get when you combine a BQ23-7 with an SD70ACe! O_o

Whats the blue box hanging on the side below the grids?

Are sandbox's installed on units going to desert operating conditions? I imagine so, but not sure.

Tugboat and NYC Man. The blue boxes attached to the side sill are sand boxes. At the bottom of the box is a black hose that extends to the frame and then wraps back around to the sanding nozzle at the rear of the truck.

This is one fantastic paint job!Now if Amtrak could get their hands of a bunch of these.Nothing beats an EMD.

I wonder how often those big air filters have to be cleaned or replaced.

Those look like a set of massive inertial filters, though I am probably wrong.

This diesel may face a threat from nearby Al Queda affiliates, which with the help of weapons looted from former Libyan dictator Moammar Quaddafi's arsenals have taken over northern Mali, right next to northern Mauritania and SNIM's iron mines (which supply Europe and would probably be a plum for AQ to try and control).

This is the last time this loco will ever see snow!

Just curious, won't the protruding radiators severely obstruct the loco engineer's view while riding long-hood forward?

That is an air filter up front for the inertial room, and in back is the same for truck #2 blower and I think it was also for the air compressor if I remember right. And yes, the front filter does get in the way of your view to the rear, so you have to slouch way down to see behind you. I dont think they had mirrors. Those air filters are called pulse air filters because every 21 to 30 seconds they would blast air backward through a portion of the filter to knock sand out of it. It is really loud too, and will scare the crap out of you if you aren't expecting it. I may be one of the only white people to ever drive this locomotive.

This unit would have been started in London, Ontario until CAT closed the plant Feb 1 2012. So goes quality.
