These units - #578 and #576, were originally built in 1949 for the Chicago and Northwestern Railway. NJT aquired them in 1983 and utilized both primarily in commuter service from Hoboken to Dover and Waldwick. They were retired in 1985 and donated to the museum collection in 1991. Later they spent some time leased to Metro North, followed by a stint at Whippany, NJ. They are currently operated by Cape May Seashore Lines in New Jersey.
