This is truly a wonderful sight. It would be safe to say this is as close as anyone today will get to seeing a brand-new Alco Northern steam locomotive on it's first steam up. I sent a modest contribution for No. 261's restoration; I am glad a lot of others did too.

UP 3985 is going into that, 3-5 years until it will run again. Now, let's wait... Superb image

Spectacular sight!!!!! I grew up 3 blocks from the National Railroad Museum in Green Bay, WI and spent many days climbing on that baby. I was sad to see her sold, But it was best for all rail fans to see her alive and running free.

Congratulations to the 261's crew! You won the rebuild race. Guess we have to hurry up and get the 1225 back together now. Maybe you'll even be able to make it to the next Trainfestival! Wouldn't that be something? Anyway, looking forward to watching your future trips. Anybody wanting to make the 1225 rebuild go a little faster will find it interesting that the Steam Railroading Institute is generating funds on yet another website. We are now on the indiegogo.com fundraising site. Just type Steam Railroading Institute into the search bar. Contributions from our fans are always appreciated. Long live the 261!
