That's an instant classic! Thanks for sharing, Jesse.

I think I recall this photo from the September issue of "Train Buff", lol. What a great shot - a superb reflection of times long past. Can't go wrong with a C&O shot, either. Progress!

A great photo Jesse, and a nice look at the original bridge at Sproul pre-derailment.

I wish America could get back to simpler, friendler, more trusting times. Now I can put my soapbox back under the bed.

Definitely the 1970's. Try doing the same photo today.

Those railroaders probably had a newfound appreciation for waiting for the light when they went off duty that day!

NICE Shot! I can only imagine what the train crew must have been thinking! I wonder how often this happened back then. LOL. And the other comment is true, you would never see anything like this allowed to happen today. Keep it up, Jesse! I am enjoying these vintage C&O shots !

Unless those girls are wearing flip flops (it doesn't appear so)... they might be the only persons to ever have boarded a train engine in their bare feet. Truly an iconic image!

Back before worries of terrorism, lawsuits and labor legalities. I was 20 when this was taken and familiar with relaxed enviroment we lived in. It's a shame our children and grand children will never know of a time. A time of innocense.

This has to be my most favorite shot to date. Man, Vernon and pjflstc nailed it and I couldnt say it any better. I truly do miss the America I grew up in . The late 1970's to early 1980's was great for life and railroading. I dont see how we can ever go back to this innocence again. Thanks for a great photo and piece of history.

Lloks like a 4th local is walking along the bridge to the front of the train, unless the crew worked shirtless.

Victor Hand would be proud.
