Interesting! I remember in the 1990's a bottle train ran from Riverside, IL to the Bethlehem Steel/ISG plant in Burns Harbor, IN. It was routed on Conrail's ex Michigan Central line. A push pull setup, with a loco on each end, the train would head as far east as Porter Junction, then head back west to the Burns Harbor steel plant on the old New York Central. Since this was a very slow moving train, Conrail did not use the NYC water level route from Illinois because they did not want to "bottle up" that busy route.
