That's an ex-UP SD90MAC-H in the foreground, is it not? Sad sight to see such a once mighty engine in that shape... But that will be the fate of the entire fleet, according to what I have seen and read.

That is indeed a SD90. A number of them were overhauled and received a standard EMD 710 prime mover for service in Australia, but in their original form with their issues and defects they were far from mighty.

I agree. I ran these monsters for two years, and yes, they are far from mighty. If working properly (which was rare), they were the most impressive locomotives I ever ran. The amount of tonnage able to handled by just one of these is incredible. They were prone to constant failure in just about every electrical and mechanical instance.
