If I may make a correction, the National Weather Service report for Spencer, NC for the third lists the high for the day as 95F, rather than 106F.

The forcast was that, but with the heat index & the humidity, the weather on the ground was 106F

Having lived near the PC mainline growing up, it would've been more authentic if the PC unit was derailed...

Humidity does not affect the temperature of steel. The heat index is how the temperature feels to humans, not to rails or locomotives. Regardless, the photo is a very nice action shot with the sparks flying off of the cut and the full complement of supervisors looking on!

I was there and I'd say 106 sounds about right, especially in the sun.
