It's hard to believe that most of Milwaukee Road's Pacific Expansion track was just abandoned instead of sold to a regional. What a waste! Great photo though!

The shot was taken between Doris and Renslow sidings on what crews called "Heartbreak Curves" on the east slope of the Saddle Mountains. You can see the Columbia River in the background.

Actually, this is just at the west switch at Doris; it'll be several miles before the train negotiates Heartbreak Curves. At this location, you can see the Columbia River in the shot; at Heartbreak you cannot.
