Either there is a back road up to the viewpoint, or it was a good climb. There was also a lot of work involved in making this stretch of line. Bankings, cuttings, a tunnel and a bridge just in this veiw. Even the river looks a bit rough.Good photo.

The classic Black Canyon shot never tires the eyes. For those seeking to replicate this view for themselves, be advised that this scene is taken from privately-owned ranch land -- be kind and ask for permission to enter so the kind folks won't shut the door on all us photographers.

I have to agree with David Honan. We received permission to access Black Canyon for this shot and others in 2006 and I probably should have stated so in the caption. Please respect the ranch’s private property.
