Add buffer plates to the pilot of these units and it is power for most Western European railways passenger trains. Glen Ridge is a place that has the look of most Great Western (The U.K. one) stations west/west southwest of London.

If not for the NJT lettering, you could easily assume that this was outside London.

Very nice, but my favorite #4501 runs on coal and steam not electric and diesel fuel. If Southern Railway had electrified from Cincinnati, Ohio to Atlanta, Georgia when they had the chance to, then electrics would be the norm now. Electrifying the C.N.O. & T.P. was seriously considered but sadly was not chosen. Reasons for electric operation were cheep coal fueled power plants in Kentucky and even less expensive hydro-electric power from TVA further south. The route is still one of Norfolk Southern's best money makers, thus the N.S. has refused to allow Amtrak to use this line. Look at Amtrak's map and it's obvious that this line is a missing link in their system. Amtrak has run test trains on this line at Road Railler speeds but can not close the deal.
