Before restructuring of East Coast long-distance trains in the early 1990s, Crescent typically dropped cars at Atlanta. Also for a while, it carried cars for Mobile, AL, that were cut off in Birmingham. Quite possibly the second locomotive was turned at Atlanta or used on the Mobile section.

Great picture. Thanks for posting. I believe it's Train 19, The Crescent, headed for New Orleans, with the bag, bag/dorm, 2 sleepers, 2 coaches and diner. If this was taken during the time that Train 819 was operating to Montgomery and Mobile, Train 819 would have been cut away at Birmingham with the 2nd F40, a lounge and 2 coaches. I don't remember that a sleeper went to Mobile.
