How long have GP38-2's been around? A long time if this pic is any indication (which it is).

1972 marked the introduction of EMD's "Dash 2" line, if memory serves. The 311 is a GP38AC I believe, though - only the 327 is a GP38-2. Note the 311 still has FOOTBOARDS, which were prohibited on new locomotives built starting a year before Conrail, and had to be removed from units built prior to then by the end of September, 1978. Guess they had another place they needed the 311's MU hoses, too - LOL.
