CN = Can't Normally

Really guys? You think this break is because of lack maintenance on CN's part? This can happen anytime, anywhere, any railroad.

I agree with you kent. All railroads have broken rails they happen all the time. Even NS has them believe it or not!

No kidding. This could happen anywhere, from your friendly neighborhood shortline, right up to your triple track transcons and overland routes. It's a natural part of stress, wear, climate, and steel.

I used to be a welder on Welding Crew #3 of the old Burlington Northern in Montana and Wyoming. This should have been reported by someone patrolling the rails or working on the crossing. Replacing standard rail with ribbon steel did away with a lot of the inspections, but if this is a crossing, it is pure negligence. It is an obvious old and deep break. Even crews that remove the snow from crossings should have reported this. It's a wonder not to have caused an accident and damage to a train. If this is overlooked, I wonder what the rest of the track looks like. Lou Partney

You said crews that remove the snow from crossings should have reported this. Stop to look at where the pic was taken for a second. Broken rail can happen anywhere, anytime.
