I grew up in Portales in the 50s before moving to Oklahoma to finish jr. high-highschool. These photos you have posted are wonderful. I hope you have more.

That's a great photo Bob! This picture was taken a little over 4 years before I was born but I sure wish I could have heard all 4 of these throttling up. Thanks for sharing.

The freight crew waving at their buddies on the passing passenger train, looks like a Howard Fogg moment! This angle clearly illustrates that the roof on Santa Fe's PAs were stainless steel clad as well. A nicely captured memory, Bob.

I don't think the roofs were stainless steel. Only the side panels were stainless (as well as that wonderful "Chief" logo). They were painted silver, however.
As great as this photo is, I could pay big money for a video shot with sound. The roar of all those 244s winding it up would have been fantastic. A PA at full throttle had a distinctive high pitched whistling sound.
