Mike, thanks for posting a shot of a rare locomotive. The Milw. Road was the only railroad to order this model I think they needed a locomotive that was lighter than a SD40. It was powered by a turbo charged 12 cylinder prime mover, and lacked dynamic breaks. Also notice the smaller than normal fuel tank.

It is too bad more SDL39's were not built. Maybe some Class 2 and Class 3 railroads could use some light power as these were.
