I think you have your timeline reversed. These were built for Amtrak, and then after over 2 decades in passenger service the CDAC got a hold of them. Great shot.

Indeed I reversed it, seems it was buils in October of 1977 as Amtrak 254 and then went on to be rebuilt for CDAC. Thanks for catching that Zach, I'll edit 'later' out.
