With the long nose, could this be an SD40-2SS prior to rebuild ?

This is most likely just a rebuilt SD40-2 with the long nose once intended for radio equipment. I think the SS or S had a longer body not nose.

SD40N: the N stands for North Little Rock. That's where UP has been rebuilding many a SD40-2...
