That boxy look on the trailing RS3's long hood denotes its status as a "DeWitt Geep," that is, one rebuilt with a 1200 h.p., EMD 12-567 oil engine from a retired E8, in a program carried out mostly at the ex-NYC Syracuse, NY DeWitt shops (but also on the ex-Pennsy at Wilmington, DE) by Conrail predecessor Penn Central. The RS11, by the way, was an ex-NYC unit.
