For those interested in a little history, the staircase to the balcony on the far side was added by Metro North during the renovation of GCT. It was part of the original plans, but not built, and M-N procured marble from the same Italian quarry that supplied the original materials. In the old GCT, the area under that balcony contained the baggage room, while the balcony itself housed a Kodak gallery in the1960's, which sat behind a huge advertising transparency. The black shroud seen in James' picture is blocking the construction site of a new Apple Store, which will be the biggest in New York City upon completion. Welcome to New York James, and I hope you can take your usual great photos without being harassed by the police.

Anyone visiting New York should take a tour of this incredible place. It takes about three hours. Everything you see at GCT was designed for a specific purpose, from the way the flooring is installed to the height of the stair risers to the angle of the ramps etc. For example, people rarely bump into each other on the main concourse - even when it's at its busiest. There's a reason for that.
