Wow, what a step back in time. Look at the old cars, the old 7UP and Coke stores and of course, the train on the Pennsy line.

Besides the autos and the Pennsy, there are so many little things that make this photo an iconic All-American image including the Breyer's Ice Cream, 7-Up, and Coke signs, the US Air Force recruiting station, and even the crossing watchman's chair in the shade under the depot canopy. What do you bet you could buy a roll of Kodachrome somewhere on that street, maybe even in that studio occupying the main floor the nearest building? And the railfan apartments on the upper level might have been a little warm in the muggy August weather, but what a view! To see how it looks today from the same spot, albeit across the tracks and sans PRR, see Mr. Klapp's photo.

Another great one John. I agree, so much to look at.

A very classic 50's photo. By far one of the best shots in this era on the site

A couple more little things...brick streets and even a dog standing in front of the first car (watching the train?!). Great shot!

Ok now if I could just find the keys to my time machine, because this is where I want to go.

There were crossing tenders at each end of the platform in Sunbury. That person far right is my friend, the late Bill Rosenberg who accompanied me on many railfan trips.
