Nice picture! Interesting that the rails appear to be pure white. My assumption is that they're painted, but can anybody shed some light as to why?

They informed me that the rails on the sides are white-washed before each summer to reduce solar heating, thereby limiting the expansion.
This maintenance is done because of a piece of track and the other there is no interval, but a weld.
