What a fascinating beast you've captured!

The idea behind the AB-6 actually makes sense when you think about it. Since B units already had a control stand in them to begin with, for moving around the yard and so on, Rock figured why not make them into full fledged locomotives? So they had a handful (maybe two or three) of these engines special built. In practice, they would serve as a B unit through most of their runs, right up to the point one or two cars from a connecting line needed to be diverted off. Rather than have passengers wait on another train, the AB would be cut out, with those cars heading down the cutoff, and serve as power for them. They also did the reverse of this, bringing cars in and then serving as the B unit through the rest of the run.
