Mid-train helpers on the Wheeling, eh? Is this common practice? I'm not a huge Wheeling follower and I don't think I've ever known of them doing this. Nice photo Wade!

Thanks, Redhawk. Helpers aren't that uncommon on the east end of the W&LE, the ore trains always have them, and when they're running, westbound slab trains usually have a helper set. Back when the grain trains were still around, they would occasionally run with a helper on the rear, but that was fairly rare. All of the ore trains that I've shot have used a mid-train helper set, with about 2/3 of the train in front of them and 1/3 behind.
