Chuck.......the guy that was the culprit was the CMO and I believe his last name was Bell. He ran the SOO Line Mechanical department with an iron fistand hated the Milwaukee. IfI remember he worked for the Milwaukee for a short time before going to the SOO. I worked for this gentleman for about two years on the old Milwaukee porperty as a Road Foreman as I was old Milwaukee.

A couple of factors came into play with this Chuck. First off, after the aqusition of the Milw Rd assests, not a merger btw, top Mgmt wanted all Milw markings covered over on the releterred / renumbered units. To that end, Shoreham Shops had no stockpile of Milw orange paint and therefore went with what was on-hand....black. It was decided that the large black "patches" would actually look better than a black line-out over the Milw Rd lettering on the hood, nose, and cabs.
