Even in the world's last stronghold of China, the decline of 'real' steam has been incredibly rapid. I am encouraged by the fact that tourism's financial input may yet come to help rescue and preserve such wonderful scenes as this. Otherwise experience tells us we can only expect a year or two of further survival for exquisite lines like this before they too pass into history. The real question is would we rather see a line survive as a tourist operation or no line at all?
