Very nice, Charles! Definitely one of the more dramatic abandonment shots in recent memory! The lighting and subdued tonality of the landscape and vegetation add to the time-worn appearance, and the composition proves that there is a place in photography for centered crops when the situation warrants.

Very nicely done indeed, Charles!

Very nice Charles. This reminds me so much of what I loved about So Cal when I lived there. The aridity is so diametrically opposed to the Northeast's humid atmosphere it was like being on another planet. The California landscape and it's attendant flora will be forever in my memory. Thanks for the recharge.

That is beyond awesome, Charles. This is something I'd really love to see in person. Kudos for capturing such a dramatic abandonment shot.

Charles, this picture is fantastic and makes me want to visit this site - great job. When are you headed to the east coast?

Excellent work...I agree that it makes me want to come check it out for myself sometime.

Very nice shot. It appears that the area has suffered both floods and wildfires since the line was abandoned. Thanks for posting it.

I was going to comment for comment's sake but - wow! How did this one pass me by? This is fantastic! Not only subject, and weather, but also composition! What a great scene. A sure "Lost Gems" contender and a missed SC, POTW, and PC all in one.

Hmm, don't know why I only favorited this one back then, so sweet! RRs were meant to go somewhere, to cross a countryside; such power here.
