If there are 8 tracks and only two tracks leading off the pier, does the barge slide to each side to unload the cars on the outer tracks?

Excellent question and good observation. The answer is YES. The process is done remarkably quickly and quietly using a ballast system to pump water into or out of the slip to raise or lower it then a series of cable winches tied off to the barge itslef to slide it side to side.

Interesting. I would have thought ARR's only connection would have been bigger than this little slip, but I guess it gets the job done!
