Some unburned fuel made its way into the exhaust side of the engine and one ball of fire later: this. GE has never been able to cure this problem, which dates back to the U25B prototypes.

Typical GE, they always seem to feature whenever there is a loco fire. You would have thought someone would be able to work out how to stop this.

Thats why they call them toasters! The HP fuel line to the injector nozzle has a bad tendency to split and spray a very high pressure mist of fuel right onto the exhaust manifold, resulting in the standard GE graffiti
