Somebody else posted a picture of a diesel making a big cloud of white smoke. I still don't understand how it happens.

My truck did it too after it'd been idling for a day or more. Sometimes had to wait that long for a load in the cold.

I did that one time in Dauphin MB in the 90's, I was working an extra yard engine with a 1600. It had been sitting for a few days on the shop track, on the first long pull in the yard, I pulled on the throttle and right now the town got smoked out.
30 seconds later the towns fire sirens were wailing and about 2 minutes after that, Dauphin's Volunteer Fire Dept. was driving up and down the yard in their fire trucks, lights and sirens a blazing....
