Thanks for sharing Jim. I spent one day exploring up in that country a half dozen years ago and it was magical. Sure would be something to see a train up there someday, but I imagine that's only wishful thinking. Do any shots exist of that 1986 last run?

Blaze, I found out about the last trip (1986) when interviewing the conductor who retired from the D&RGW in 1989. No pictures exist that I know of. I was grateful to find out about it the last trip though. The last gold ore mine run to Burgin was in the summer of 1985. My father was on hand to document the trip with Kodachrome 25 in his Canon FTB. A single GP40, half a dozen mill gondolas and a caboose made the trip from Provo and back. Miners at Burgin loaded the gondolas with ore via a front end loader while the crew waited. What an adventure that would have been for the crew and my dad!
