Don, you've been hold out on us! Great catch. I'll take the Turbo over the Acela any day of the week. It was faster, had a better view and looked much more impressive.

Amtrak's original pair of United Aircraft Turbo Trains, built for the USDOT in 1969, were three-car affairs. Two additional coaches were added to each set in 1972, and they ran as five-car sets thereafter. This, being a four-car train, is more likely a set bought from CN in 1973, which consisted of power cars 56 and 57, and two coaches 78 and 79. A second CN set was to be acquired, but it had a grade crossing accident in Canada, during an acceptance trial, caught fire and burned. By enlarging the picture on the computer screen, the unit number seems to be 57. Now your picture is ever more rare, Don!

Great shot, Don. I lived in the Northeast in NJ at the time. Don't remember seeing one of these, so it makes the picture even better. Thanks for posting.
