Great catch even if it wasn't the VIA that you caught. This was probably more of a once in a life time opportunity. The question is, did he clear, & did you call him in for Trespassing....lol... Thanks so much for sharing. Awesome Job

I love this photo. S/he's staring at you quite intently . . . or at your lunch . . . or considering you for lunch. Hope VIA didn't hit him/her.

Nice shot, just remember the click of a camera shutter sounds just like the popping teeth of an aggressive bear, and they have been known to attack people taking pictures.

Talk about a stare-down. Great shot.

If the CN hired more of these, there would be very few trespassers! Great shot!

It's obvious this bear never attended track worker safety training. His paw is on the rail!

Well there's something you don't see everytime when your out railfanning! It's good to be quick with the camera (and with your feet if necessary)!

Harking back to Grizzly Adam's "Ben" perhaps? Hopefully you had some distance between you!

Thanks for the kind remarks. Yes, the bear cleared the mainline in time for the passenger train. I saw it again the following year but not this year - probably moved on to another area of the park.
I would say I was about 50-70 feet away from the bear standing on the running board of the work truck.

This is a really beautiful shot. Mother nature does not cut corners when it comes to wildlife. I would have been shaking in my LL Bean boots. Nice job
