All the units in CN paint formerly in IC paint were up for sale at the most recent CN auction. I wish I could say all these units were in perfect working order but I can't. Each one of these units had one one or more mechanical issue that CN was not in need to repair and purchased UP C40-8's and BNSF C40-8W's to fill thier positions on the system. The IC SD40-2R's that are being scrapped were on CN's list of non-common power just like the WC SD45's were. It was only a matter of time before CN grabbed these units and had them bite the scrapper's torch!

Very sad to see this many SD-40's going away.

Do you happen to grab the numbers off of the two black IC units?

They are IC 6013 and IC 6068.

Why would they scrap a SD40-2? Those engines were true workhorses.

>> Why would they scrap a SD40-2? Those engines were true workhorses. << The recent SD70M-2 and ES44DC deliveries have allowed for the retirement of older power -- SD40-2s, SD40-2Ws, and SD50Fs -- and the IC SD40-2s are subject to EPA emission requirements. Additionally, the acquisition of former C&NW C40-8s and BNSF C40-8Ws have further allowed for older power to be retired. With the economy still a shadow of what it was before it plunged there are still a sea of lease units in storage. As a result, none of the SD40-2s brought in any offers at the recent auctions; high steel prices virtually guaranteed that these units would meet the torch. Nevertheless, a sad photo indeed...
