The GM&O E7s were acquired with the Chicago & Alton merger, and it was the Alton that got the first production E7, in 1945, that one being this locomotive. Later GM&O would add an E7 number 100, which dated from 1946, and an E8 number 100A (2nd,) which resulted from the trade-in credit from ex-B&O EA 53, that became GM&O 100A (1st.)
