This down-on image of DSS&A 101 reveals that somewhere in its history it acquired a circular fan housing instead of the standard square unit with shutters, common to 539-engined Alco-GE power. Even though the Genessee & Wyoming had a similarly-modified example, the last RS-1s built, Grand Trunk Western 1950-1951, were provided with the angular fan shroud.

To add more to the first comment. The 101 was sold by the Soo Line back to Alco where it was rebuilt and updated.
