Why does the Deseret Western need a siding if it has only one train?

I'm envious, Arthur -- I missed out on getting this shot on the last day I spent along the DPR last year because the railroad held the train at the mine after loading for three hours to do brake inspections/repairs.
To answer James' question, the original intent for this line was to run two trains and meet them at the aptly-named Midway; after the railroad had been constructed, the size of the power plant changed and they ended up only needing the lone trainset to supply the plant.

Great shot, Arthur, of my favorite railroad. I have thought about this photo location for years, but you beat me to it.
