I'm willing to bet they had a radio with Ernie Harwell calling the day's or evening's Tigers game in the tower, too. I think the switchtender was waiting for his ride home at 3 PM, following the day trick.

Funny how he mentions how "hostile" something from the 50's is today. At my workplace the "Toronto Sun Girls" was the order of the day, til the mid late 90's. Times really have changed indeed.
