This C & O locomotive is owned by The Kentucky Railroad Museum and still exists. Southern Railway road foreman of engines Bill Purdie won the Model Railroader magazine Kit Bash Award for what we see in this photo. Mr. Purdie took a full size C & O engine and rebuilt it to look like it would have, if the Southern had ever bought any of these. To don't know of any other time that award was awarded to anyone else for a full size Kit Bash. This was a great honor to a great steam authority, who was the man responsible for many steam locomotives having been preserved as well as enjoyed by several generations of people who may not have had the thrill of seeing and riding behind a live steam locomotive if not for him.
