EJ&E 523 was substituted for a unobtainable Wabash caboose. A real Wabash boxcar, fishbelly style, was placed on display along with the caboose. Bill Volkner?, unsure of name, was a lifelong resident of Orland Park and a councilman I believe also. He wanted to see a display of an engine, boxcar and caboose at then new station for all Orland Park residents to view as they headed to Chicago and a tribute to great Wabash Railrod. He did get the caboose and boxcar painted, but was unable to secure a Metra E8 to be painted in Wabash colors. Sadly Bill passed away before this was accomplished. I was part of the crew that set the boxcar and caboose on the display track. In return for our assistance a NKP boxcar was donated to HVRM North Judson IN. It was moved to North Judson the same day and is now our signal dept car. I drove the tilt bed truck with the 2 trucks for the NKP boxcar to North Judson. A very long day.
