Those are some interesting units. Whats the deal with the flared out rear?

I believe the flare outs you're referring to are the sand filters boxes.... looks like one on top of the e-locker and one at the rear for some reason. Looks like they took up the rear sandbox space, that's why the sandboxes are on the walkway rail at the rear.
Just a quick correction, these locos were assembled and finished at the EMD plant in London, Ontario. As usual, the 710 engines were built at the LaGrange engine plant.
Great pics!!

Those projecting boxes on roof are air filters for an environment which will have a lot of sand and dust floating on the winds.

I would guess that that the extra flaring has to do with sand filtration in the Saudi desert.

Interesting units that's for sure. The high mounted air filters are to prevent them from getting clogged with dust seeing as they will be operating in the desert, definitely gives them a unique look. Also of interest is the built in La Grange, if that is true they are the first units to be built there since SP's GP60's!

Looking at the thumbnail, I thought they were new Kansas City Southern motors. Odd looking creatures, that's for sure.

The side railing sandboxes remind me of the ones on the DDA40X Centennials. Nice-looking units!
