Ah, the things that build character! Not Facebook, not Xbox360....

You were out at Fullerton last night? I was talking to the kid(Jack). Real nice kid. Good old BARWAT!

Hmm. Not sure how I feel about this one. Interesting picture, danger is more than possible here. If something happens, do their parents sue the RR? Just wondering. And lest anyone think I'm preaching, I've done it too..but I'm older now..

Nothing like a good honest natural rush. Been there, done that. Do it again in a heartbeat. (skipped a few of those at the time)

I agree, once it's in your blood it's there for life, but do it from a safe distance.

Ray, watch the episode of Mythbusters which deals with this sort of thing. Cool picture. His reaction is priceless.

Great capturing of the expression on the boy's face. I think this photo would look even more effective if you zoomed/cropped-in to show just the boy in the lower left third and passing freight car filling the rest of the frame. Just a suggestion.

Great photo indeed. Ive stood by the yellow line in Downers Grove,IL a number of times watching Amtraks fly by my on track 1. Nothing can compare to that feeling.

It's not too smart to be standing that close to a speeding train. Loose chains, straps, etc can decapitate or severely injure you.

You've really captured some great station scenes!

At least he's got a watchman / lookout.

He's behind the yellow line - that's good enough for me. If I'm standing that close, I always face the direction the train is approaching so I can look out for chains hanging loose or shifted loads. His friend is looking the right way to warn him if something were dragging off one of the cars.

Being an ex-rail switchman, i learned first hand to stay away from the equipment as much as my work would allow me to. Which is to say that i was always within arms reach of it. At 45mph, that close. That's too,too close. Even for an employee, that's just too close.

I love how the boy with the camera is all excited and his friend is entirely nonchalant.

The kids face says it all. I think the person walking along the platform in the background is actually closer to the train than the two kids are. the handicap ramp is set farther back than the yellow stripe along the platform.

It is the BARWAT, what could possibly happen with the BARWAT?

I live right near this kid, we go train watching occasionally. Real nice kid. By the way, his name is Jack and the other kid near him is his brother Sam. Hilarious shot; this is priceless!
