The D&H's new GP39-2s were destined to be lost in the collapse of the D&H after Guilford took over the D&H, these units went to the Boston & Maine for a while until they were returned to their lessor. Guilford didn't want to pick up these units when their lease ran out and they vanished into the vast pool of leasers on the likes of Union Pacific or KCS as GP38-2s or GP38-3s, following rebuilding.
