Great photo Saul, but its bittersweet. It is a nice new paint job, but I cant help but feel we have all lost a great American railroad called the Illinios Central, It will indeed take some time for me to accept this new image being painted on the IC locomotives, the IC will be missed.

Good shot. Too bad they did not leave the SD70's alone. Nice photography.

Some time? IC locomotives have been repainted for years now.

Saul, very nice photo, the new paint does look nice, and very sharp to Canadian National lovers, but to me it just doesnt look as good. But at least it wont rust now!

I'm not sure, but I have a hunch that the IC shall return someday.

Nice shot! At least it was standing still in nice sun. As for the IC, good riddance. Its paint scheme was worse than the NS. Even worse than Penn Central. I hope CN gets those deathwishes all painted or scrapped ASAP. And I've noticed CN has even added some life into the stodgy IC. Actually running something instead of parking it on the main somewhere. And better performance relative to its Amtrak obligations. No more "Uh,....sorry, Amtrak. Uh...um...we got a freight parked ...uh, on the main. Uh,...well... we um...don't have a ..um...crew on it...um...see, um... the siding is , um , the siding is ...er...out of service, um, um, um... "

I highly disagree with the poster above. Personally, I love the black and white IC scheme. It's simple color-wise, but it's hardly boring or anything. And the "Deathstar" logo is classic. I think the remainder of IC black and white locomotives will get sold or repainted by CN eventually but the spirit of the IC will always live on in old photos and memories of railfans who lived near IC lines.

The poster above Joe left his name off of his post for good reason because he or she is afraid of the feedback. LONG LIVE AND RETURN THE IC !!!

For all you IC fans, the merger went the other way around in terms of corporate culture. There once was a great railroad called Canadian National and EHH turned it upside down by creating a culture of fear which blames train crews for everything. So the great and powerful IC lives on: Darth Vader would be proud.
