If there is an odder locomotive anywhere at any time, I'd like to see it. Texas-Mexican's box cabs come to mind, as they may have inspired this beast. Granted it had a mechanical drive train as opposed to the Whitcomb or Texas-Mexican units that had conventional generators powering traction motors.

Quite interesting. I know the Federal Railroad Administrator (FRA) motive power inspectors would have a field day with this contraption! As of 2008, it was obviously still equipped with footboards. I don't think the FRA inspectors would have any jurisdiction over this railroad anyway, but I still have to show one of them this image the next time they climb aboard one of our CN/IC locomotives. I bet they would get quite a chuckle! Thanks for sharing Don.

Interesting detail of note, is if you look beside the coupler, you can see a link and pin coupler pocket.
