This brings back memories of summer 2003 when I was involved in a structural survey of the steelwork underneath the pier at the Esplanade end. It was blazing hot and we were tied-in to the tides. On the first day we had to stop work at 3.30 pm...and spent the rest of the day on a very enjoyable pub crawl around Ryde at the insistance of the Chief Engineer!
