Very nice night scene John. Wow, those CN&W units are shiny! PCA from me.

Works for me!

Great shot, John. You and Ryan did very well with the lighting capturing great detail in the foreground along with the train. PCA vote from me.

Nicely done. I thought I was looking at a 90's photo. Until I noticed the date. Wow!

Lovely shot - can one assume that the locomotive crew knew that this picture was being taken and were issued with the appropriate sunglasses?!

Great shot!

Nice shot. But I'm curious why the crossing gate is up. It makes me wonder whether the train is stopped, and they released the gate so not to interfere with road traffic. At first I thought that this was the UP heritage unit, but you said the last two, which makes me think otherwise.

Classic shot John. Give the UP some credit too, for leaving these two beauties untouched.

Astounding. I've been to West Chicago many times, and that is probably the best shot I have seen of it.

Is it still called an "attempt" when it is a complete success?

I really miss the CNW.

@Dave Redmann There are two sets of guardrails on Washington Street, one for the UP line and one for the CN (ex EJE). The UP guardrails are down to the right and left of the picture. The EJE ones remain up.

I'm a Geneva Sub native (Wheaton) and I love this. Thanks for posting.

The crossing protection times out if the train does not enter the crossing. Once it times out the gates go up and the lights stop flashing.

Well done!

No time out here, the gates up are to protect the EJ&E as the author stated and this is a UP train crossing the J. I have shot here since the 70's and this is one of the best shots I have ever seen. Five Stars....

Glad to see this got a PCA, John. Certianly the best one of this week!

I think this picture is the best I have ever seen from JB tower. How did you set up the lighting like that? Keep up the good work!
