I'm taking a good stare at the Google Map and I see a second track on the Parmele Sub just south of this location. Nick, is that the too-short yard that you mention? If that is the case, I can see F727 opening the north switch and then pulling into that track (is it called a running track? a yard lead?) and tying down a couple of his cars on the train after decoupling the engines, opening the south switch, moving southbound down the main, closing the south switch, engines now reversed and heading north leaving the conductor behind who will attach the EOT, pulling past the north switch, backing onto his train, conductor tests the EOT and then walks back to the head end, the train pulls out back onto the main, conductor closes the north switch, and walks yet again back to the head end whereupon F727 can finally head north. If that is the case, then yes, I can see where the addition of the northeast leg of the wye would be something of an improvement :) I am impressed by the heavy duty power used on these locals. Great shot! The light falls perfectly for you.Again your narrative style is interesting and intrigues me to ask more questions. Thank You!
