Wow, that is an incredible photo! This is certainly one of the most incredible displays of both locomotive models and paintschemes that I've seen. That is variety at its best!

While I realize many rail fans like the "Big Sky Blue" and "Cascade Green," from my experience, these represent two of the more utilitarian, if not boring, paint schemes. Both designed for minimum paint booth down time (analyze the masking pattern required). In fact GN was forced to simply the beautiful "Empire Builder" design, to get units back on the road asap. Ultimately we end up with many single color units with white lettering. Oh for the days of the "Black Widow!"

Great shot. By the time I got to Oroville, the BN power was all green, but the Alcos were still there.

The blue may be a simple scheme but it is absolutely stunning as is the CB&Q red in the background.
