I never seen a derailer in a crossing. It this a standard pratice?

If the car were headed the way the photographer was looking, it would end up in the ditch!

It probably would not end up in the ditch because the left rail would hold it on the RoW.

Interesting how they place derails sometimes...looks like if a train hit it at over about 20-25 mph, it would still make it to the opposing track and probably take out the building. Thanks for sharing the photo !
